Recently I attended a session from Franklin covey on 7 Habits . Program went very well , while explaining about the program to my colleagues they asked me to deliver the concept to them.
I was happy and I told them we will divide the session into 9 modules of 20 minutes and i will deliver 1 session per day about what ever I learned.
Next day Session started!!
While explaining the concept, we may get lot of opinions and suggestions on improvising the training as well as suggestions may come to redesign content and delivery with activities!! . similar experience came to me too....
I was horrified thinking where it went wrong and introspected the event and then i realized the fact that ,
1. It started as an experience sharing session.- some where i made a comment that "we will do a training" while, i was thinking i will share my experiences.
2. Stephen covey or any training company, when they design a video based training they articulate the concept and flow properly. This may not be possible when you do it with out video and trainer guide.( after attending their workshop only once)).
3. The most important fact "mistake was not in my design of program but in setting expectation.'
&
4. Anybody can ask for any requirement, it is you who should clarify what can be done!
YES!
When I realized this, i thought of the participants and comments that came across during the session ,
1. The participants were able to relate what I was telling ,
2. Participants were interested to attend the next session with lot of interest and enthusiasm,
Only area where i got confused was in the "type of program" , one participant asked about a change in training type and it become paradigm shift and had a snow ball effect. and being unexposed to such situation ( in my past 9 years in training) i dint anticipated this issue.
Now i am more confident and happy to share my content and the new experience to the team.
Remember - " When it is experience sharing , State it Loud" , differentiate it from training program.
